        Sign up for the 19th Erie Canal Fishing Derby, a family event with over $20,000 in prizes. Taking place from July 7 through 19, there are 7 divisions; small and large mouth bass (12”), walleye (15”), N Pike (22”), bullhead, carp, sheephead and catfish.

  Sign up any day during the derby and there will be daily prizes for kids at the weigh stations. The prices to enter are as follows: 14 and under are $6, individual adult $11, family $21 and cash bash is $5.

   Win a boat package supplied by Bryce Marine of Rochester and other prizes. Tagged fish in the derby are marked up to $10,000 and they are sponsored by numerous local sponsors.  Looking for a special item at a garage sale? You’ll have many sales to shop at when the Town of Royalton hosts their town wide garage sale. The sale is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. Please contact the Town Clerks office at 772-2431 for more information. The LOYAL youth football Roy Hart Rams have openings for 6 and 7 year old kids who are at least 6 years old before December 1 2009. Practice is at Veterans park in Gasport starting July 27th. Interested players can sign up at the Royalton Ravine Park at the 4th of July celebration from 3:00pm to 6:00pm or by calling Rose Carey at (716) 531- 2463 or emailing jpfbuffalo@yahoo.com. A copy of the childs birth certificate is required.

                  The 14th Annual Fly In Breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday at the Royalton Airport on Dale and Mackey Road. It is 9G5 on the airport maps if you are flying in. Breakfast will include sausage, eggs, blueberry sauce, juice, coffee or tea and all you can eat pancakes. Families can enjoy the displays of antique cars and tractors. The Gasport Order of the Eastern Star will hold a baked food sale on the site. All are welcome to drive in, fly in, bike in or walk in. The event is sponsored by the Gasport Masons and proceeds will help benefit the annual Roy-Hart Scholarships to a senior boy or girl.

            Enjoy a special evening program this Saturday at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, brought to you by Iroquois Observations. A Buffalo Audubon program takes place at Kanyoo Trail on Route 77. At 8 p.m. see ’Owls of the night’  with ‘real live’ owls and speaker Wendi Pencille. Kid’s activities at 9 p.m. include “Bugs By Nightlight” with Toby Mansfield or “Star Gazing” with the Rochester Astronomy Club (time may be adjusted to have total darkness).

  The Lockport Theatre Organ Society presents the popular Joe Donahue at the console of their Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ on Monday June 15.

    Donahue, a talented musician and native of WNY has thrilled audiences in Ohio, Florida and Canada.  Locally, he has also played at Shea’s in Buffalo and North Tonawanda’s Riviera Theatre.

  The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Dale Association, 33 Ontario St in Lockport. Admission is $ 6 and refreshments are available at Intermission.  The concert is open to everyone, the second half of the program may even include some requests from the audiencence.

            The Middleport Community Farmers Market will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Friday until October 30.  Pick up all your fresh produce and meet local farmers every Friday at the parking lot of the Middleport Family Health Center and Wilson Farms on Route 31 in Middleport. You can shop for fresh produce picked right here in Western New York. A wide variety of items are available at the market. In addition to your favorite summer fruit and vegetables, items available this year the market include organic honey and wax products, all-natural beef, fresh cut flowers and herbs, bedding plants, maple syrup and maple products, eggs, jelly and jams as well as offerings from the Mennonite bakery.  There is something new every week, and check back often.  It’s a great place to plan your weekly shopping; hope to see everyone down at the market!

There’s a bright window in the Village of Middleport where the suns shine in any weather. Peggy Burgess, owner of Peggy’s Towpath Café sold over 100 suns in just 2 days for the Relay For Life in Lockport. Thanks to Peggy and her customers for helping the Relay against cancer.  The Lockport Relay is one of the largest in the area and it has had many villages and towns helping the fight against cancer.   peggy burgess suns... The Lockport Relay starts at 2 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. on June 20. The Relay began originally in Barker and is now held at the Emmet Belknap School track in Lockport. Come and spend the evening with the teams, visitors and stay for the Luminaria Ceremony at 10 p.m. Thousands of candles are lit in honor or in memory of those who have faced cancer.
