          Girl Scout Troop 66 is holding a Book Drive to earn the Silver Award. This is the second highest award a girl scout can earn. The girls are collecting new and gently used children’s and adult books. All books collected will be donated to the Boys and Girls club of Niagara County and Project Flight. The book collection has started and runs until March 5. You can drop off your book donations at  Porter Insurance Agency, the Gasport Post Office in Gasport and Rhinehart Fertilizer Feed and Grain in Middleport.

The Woman’s Fellowship of Covenant United Church of Christ welcomes you to join us in “Grandma’s kitchen for tea”. Come share with us all the memories of Grandma’s kitchen as we remember stories and recipes with a cup of tea.

      In addition to the wonderful five-course Victorian Tea you will see a display of aprons and kitchen antiques from across the country. Guests will have an opportunity to win one of the elegant baskets in the raffle. Come bring your friends and wear your finest apron and or period attire. The tea will have two seatings, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 10 in the Church’s Fire Place Room. Ticket price is $24.    Thanks to all the readers that look for my column each week. It’s a great job to  share good news with our community members. I look forward to more great news each week and can’t believe it’s been 10 years for the local columns.

    The Chatterbox celebrated last week the 10th Anniversary of the column for Barker and Somerset. Now the Towpath Partyline will be celebrating a 10th Anniversary this week. Click into the Partyline with all your good news. 


My Towpath Partyline column recently celebrated a tenth anniversary of sharing  news from the Middleport, Gasport and Medina areas. Thank you for the proclamation from the Village of Barker for including their local news in my column. Thanks to Thee Barker Store/Middleport Family Health, Jim’s Diner in Barker, Pizza Wings and Things in Barker for some great gift  certificates. Thank you to Mayor Jo Ann Greenwald and columnist Julie Obermiller for surprising me with a dinner and the recognition at Jim’s Diner last week.  So I am now an honorary member of the Barker Community, thanks to all the local readers for sharing their news!

       Boy Scout Troop 23 will be holding their semi-annual Can and Bottle drive on February 13th from 9am-1pm at the Scout House(located next to Holy Cross Lutheran Church).  Drop off your returnable cans and bottles and help support your local Boy Scout Troop.  All funds raised, help Boy Scouts pay for Summer Camp and also equipment for the Troop.

     Are you and your family looking for something to do during this  long winter? Maedl’s Woodcrafts invites you to attend the first Winterfest event to be held on Sat. Feb. 6 at the Royalton Hartland Elementary School from 11 until 4 p.m. and you can  stop in the cafeteria to have some great Italian food prepared by the Barge Canal Art Center, just one of several vendors, and have a bite to eat.

   The BCAC, sponsored by Maedl’s Woodcrafts, will be serving meatball subs, creampuffs/eclairs and water in their little “Italian Kitchen”. Proceeds from the sale go to scholarships for art and music given out each year by the Art Center. There are lots of activities during the event so beat the winter blues and spend the day having fun at Winterfest, organized and sponsored by the Royalton Hartland Business & Professional Association and Absolut Care of Gasport.
