It’s that time of year again when store shelves are full of the school supplies that students need for all their hard work during the year.
I think that parents like me are lucky since we get lists in advance of all the items our kids need. The RoyHart web site has a list started for the Elementary School children of supplies that parents can purchase to get ready for back to school. My kids are older now and know what they need for school without a list but it’s a terrific idea for the schools to send the list out early when all the sales start in July. I remember having to go out the first day of school at night dragging around looking at stores because teachers didn’t tell us until the first day of school what we needed. It’s nicer now for planning.
Now at the bottom of the list is a note for no Trapper Keepers. I remember having one of these notebooks, it was akward to carry and had a loud sound when you opened it. Everyone would be glancing over to see what you were doing. Something as harmless as putting your papers away caused kids to be looking to see what the noise was, and so they didn’t have to pay attention to what else was going on in the class. And it didn’t fit good in my locker, I don’t remember if it was metal snap or Velcro, just that it was loud.
The newer ones are supposed to be made more sleek and probably have more interesting pictures on the front. For all those kids that want to be organized, my vote is no. Thanks Trapper Keeper but I’ll just get them a cool backpack. At least it doesn’t make a loud ripping sound in math class.
[...] something horrible is happening to our nation’s children. They’re being told that they can’t have Trapper Keepers at school! Apparently a lot of schools do not want kids using them for orginization. Check your [...]
They now make them with magnetic closures (since 2007)…no ripping sound…yet still banned by fun-hating schools everywhere…
